Want a Lawn Without the Wait?
Kikuyu Instant Turf for a Fast, Even Finish
Growing a lawn from seed takes patience, careful watering and a lot of luck with birds and weeds. Instant turf skips that stage entirely. You roll out a mature, living lawn and, with good watering, the roots knit firmly into the soil within a few weeks.
Kikuyu is one of the quickest varieties to establish because its runners are so vigorous. We cut it fresh to order at our Cornwallis farm, so the rolls arrive full of life and ready to lay on arrival. The result is a bright green, even surface you can enjoy almost straight away after laying.
In short: Arrow Turf is a family-owned Hawkesbury turf farm supplying Kikuyu instant turf to homes and projects across Greater Sydney. Pricing is driven by area, delivery distance, preparation work and whether we lay it for you. Instant turf orders are harvested to order and usually ready within a day or two.

Instant Results With Kikuyu
Instant Turf That Establishes in Weeks
Instant turf is the answer for anyone who needs a finished lawn quickly. New home owners moving into a fresh build, sellers preparing a property for inspection, landscapers finishing a project and families tired of muddy footprints all want grass that looks complete from the first day. Kikuyu suits this well because it roots fast, spreads to close any gaps and stands up to use sooner than slower varieties. There is no waiting season and no patchy germination to worry about.
We focus on freshness. Your Kikuyu is harvested only after you order, then delivered or collected so it can go down on the day it arrives. Our installation crews can prepare the ground with levelling and 80/20 underlay before laying, which helps the turf take hold. We can also supply maxi rolls when a big area needs covering quickly. Instant Turf Order
What Your Kikuyu Instant Turf Order Can Include
- Appearance: a bright green lawn with a medium-textured leaf that fills in quickly and evenly.
- Wear tolerance: vigorous runners help it bounce back from kids, pets, sport and heavy foot traffic.
- Sun and shade: thrives in full sun; it isn’t the best choice for heavily shaded spots.
- Drought hardiness: copes well with hot, dry spells once established and greens up quickly after rain.
- Maintenance: grows fast in the warmer months, so it needs regular mowing and edging to keep it tidy.
- Best suited to: large backyards, schools, parks, playing fields and anyone after a budget-friendly lawn.
Instant Fixes
Bare Soil, Mud and Tight Deadlines: Where Instant Kikuyu Helps
Instant turf exists to solve problems quickly. These are the situations where a Kikuyu roll-out makes the biggest difference. Each one calls for coverage now, not months from now.
Bare dirt after a new build. Freshly built homes often hand over with nothing but compacted fill. Laying Kikuyu instant turf on prepared underlay transforms the yard in a day and stops dust and mud being tracked inside. Kids can be out on it within weeks.
Properties heading to market. Agents and property managers know a green lawn lifts first impressions. Instant turf gives a finished look straight away, and Kikuyu’s quick establishment means it settles in fast after it is laid.
Seeded lawns that never took. Patchy seed results leave weeds and bare spots behind. Replacing them with mature Kikuyu rolls gives full coverage immediately, and its runners quickly seal the joins. It also removes the need to keep birds off fresh seed.

Instant Turf Costs
How Much Does Kikuyu Instant Turf Cost?
Instant turf costs more upfront than seed, but you are buying a finished lawn instead of months of waiting. With Kikuyu, the main price drivers are the area in square metres, delivery distance, site access, ground preparation such as levelling and underlay, and whether you want our crew to lay it.
| Price driver | How it affects your cost |
|---|---|
| Variety | Kikuyu is our most budget-friendly variety per square metre. |
| Lawn area | Turf is priced per square metre, and larger orders can attract better rates. |
| Pickup, delivery or installation | Collecting from our farm avoids a delivery charge; delivery and laying are quoted on top. |
| Extras | Turf underlay, lawn starter fertiliser or water crystals add to the total. |

Fresh From Cornwallis
Cut to Order on Our Hawkesbury Turf Farm
Freshness is what makes instant turf work, and ours is grown at 104 Cornwallis Road, Cornwallis, on the Hawkesbury River. Our family has been growing turf here for more than 45 years, building up healthy paddocks with a strong root system that is ready to establish the moment it is laid.
We do not pre-cut stock. Your rolls are harvested to match your order and are usually ready within a day or two. From the farm we deliver six days a week to homes and sites throughout Greater Sydney, or you can collect from the farm at a time that suits you.

How Our Instant Turf Process Gets You a Lawn Quickly
Speed matters with instant turf, so we keep each stage tight and well timed. Follow these four steps and your Kikuyu goes from paddock to established lawn with as little waiting as possible.
1. Measure your lawn: work out the square metres you need, or send us your measurements to double-check.
2. Choose how you receive it: collect from our farm, book delivery six days a week, or have our crew install it.
3. We cut it fresh: your turf is harvested to order and usually ready within a day or two.
4. Lay and water in: lay it on the day it arrives and water deeply for the first few weeks.
Watering, First Mows and Timing: Getting Instant Kikuyu Established
A few early care decisions decide how fast and evenly your instant turf settles in.
Leaving rolls on the pallet. Turf is a living product and loses condition if left stacked. Plan to lay your Kikuyu on the day it arrives so the roots can start working into the soil straight away.
Underwatering in the first weeks. New turf needs deep watering once or twice a day for roughly the first three weeks. Skipping sessions can cause shrinkage at the joins and slow down establishment.
Cutting instant Kikuyu too early. Give the lawn two to three weeks before the first cut, then use a high mower setting. This protects the young roots while Kikuyu’s runners fill in.
Laying straight onto hard ground. A level bed of 80/20 underlay around 100 to 150 mm deep gives instant turf a soft, nutrient-rich layer to root into, making establishment faster and more even.
Frequently Asked Questions About Kikuyu Instant Turf
How fast does Kikuyu instant turf establish?
Kikuyu instant turf is one of the quickest varieties to establish. With deep watering once or twice a day for around three weeks, the roots usually knit into the soil in that time, and the first mow is typically due after two to three weeks. You get a green lawn from day one.
Is instant turf better than seeding a Kikuyu lawn?
Instant turf gives you full coverage straight away, with no bare soil for weeds to invade and no waiting months for seed to grow. It also cuts down on mud and erosion while the lawn establishes. For most homeowners wanting a quick, even result, rolls are the more reliable option.
When can I walk on new Kikuyu instant turf?
Light foot traffic is fine for watering and checking joins, but try to keep heavy use off it for the first few weeks while the roots establish. Once it has had its first mow on a high setting, Kikuyu instant turf can gradually return to normal family use.
Do I need to lay the turf the day it arrives?
Yes, that is the best approach. Because we cut to order, the turf arrives fresh, and laying it on arrival day keeps it healthy. Rolls left stacked on a pallet start to deteriorate, especially in warm weather, so have your site prepared before delivery.
What preparation does instant turf need?
Remove any old lawn and weeds, level the area and spread a turf underlay such as an 80/20 mix around 100 to 150 mm deep. This gives the roots a good base. If you would rather not do it yourself, our installation crews can handle the whole job.
Can I collect instant turf from the farm?
Yes. Order online or by phone, pick your date and time, and let us know the day before for next-day pickup. Our team will help load the turf by hand or machinery at the farm. Remember that fresh turf weighs about 15 to 20 kg per square metre.
Can you deliver and install my Kikuyu instant turf?
We can do both. Our turf delivery across Sydney runs six days a week, and our turf installation service covers removal, levelling, underlay, laying and watering in. That way your instant lawn is finished without you lifting a roll.
Is Kikuyu the right instant turf for a shady yard?
Kikuyu instant turf is best in full sun. It establishes fastest and stays thickest with plenty of direct light, so it is not ideal for heavily shaded yards. If your lawn is mostly shaded, talk to us about a soft leaf buffalo variety instead.
