A Hard-Wearing Lawn, Ready in Rolls
Kikuyu Turf Rolls Grown on Our Cornwallis Farm
Kikuyu has earned its place as one of the most popular lawns around because it copes with punishment. Its vigorous runners spread across worn areas and fill them back in, so footy games, dogs and constant foot traffic don’t leave permanent bare patches. It also stays green through hot spells once it’s settled in.
We grow our Kikuyu at Cornwallis and harvest it only when an order comes in. Choose standard rolls for a home yard or ask about maxi rolls for larger grounds, then collect from the farm, book delivery or let our crew lay it. We’ll check your measurements so you order the right amount.
In short: Arrow Turf is a family-owned farm growing Kikuyu turf rolls for homes, schools, councils and sports grounds across Greater Sydney. Pricing depends on square metres, standard or maxi format and whether you pick up, take delivery or book installation, with Kikuyu our most budget-friendly variety. Rolls are usually ready within a day or two.

How Kikuyu Compares With Our Other Rolls
Who Kikuyu Rolls Suit
Kikuyu Rolls for Busy Yards and Open Spaces
Families with kids and dogs, schools, sporting clubs and councils all need a lawn that takes heavy use without falling apart. Kikuyu is the natural fit for sunny spaces like these. It recovers from wear faster than most turf, handles hot, dry spells once established and greens up quickly after rain. For large areas, it also keeps costs down, which is why it’s a common choice for ovals, parks and big rural-style blocks. Schools and councils also value how quickly worn goal mouths and walkways recover between busy periods.
Our approach is to match the roll format and quantity to your space. A suburban backyard usually calls for standard rolls that are easy to carry and lay by hand, while a playing field benefits from maxi rolls with fewer joins. We’ll also be upfront when Kikuyu isn’t right, such as in heavily shaded spots. Every order is harvested fresh at Cornwallis, so the rolls arrive full of moisture and ready to lay. Find out more about the variety itself on our Kikuyu turf variety page.

Problems Kikuyu Fixes
Worn Tracks, Pet Damage and Hard-Working Lawns
Some lawns simply get used harder than others. Kikuyu turf rolls are well suited to three situations we hear about all the time.
Bare tracks along fence lines. Dogs running the boundary and kids taking the same shortcut wear grass down to soil. Kikuyu’s aggressive runners spread back into these tracks, repairing damage that slower grasses would leave behind. Regular watering during recovery speeds the process up even more.
Lawns used for sport and play. Backyard cricket, school lunchtimes and weekend games put serious stress on turf. Kikuyu is hard-wearing and fast-repairing, so it keeps a playable surface through busy seasons. Even after a long weekend of matches, the grass knits back together quickly in warm weather.
Big Kikuyu areas on a budget. Turfing a big block, paddock-style yard or reserve can add up quickly. As our most budget-friendly variety, Kikuyu lets you cover more ground for your budget without giving up toughness. It’s a popular pick for councils and schools for exactly this reason.

Kikuyu Roll Costs
How Much Do Kikuyu Turf Rolls Cost?
Kikuyu turf rolls are our most budget-friendly option per square metre, but your total still depends on a few things. The size of the area, standard or maxi format, and whether you collect, take delivery or have the rolls laid all play a part. Extras such as underlay add to it too.
| Price driver | How it affects your cost |
|---|---|
| Turf variety | Kikuyu is the most budget-friendly; soft leaf buffalo and premium couch cost more per m². |
| Quantity | Rolls are priced per square metre, and larger orders can attract better rates. |
| Roll format | Maxi rolls suit big areas and are quoted separately from standard rolls. |
| Pickup, delivery or installation | Collecting from our farm avoids a delivery charge; delivery and laying are quoted on top. |

Where Kikuyu Rolls Grow
Growing and Cutting Kikuyu at Our Hawkesbury Farm
Our Kikuyu is grown on our family farm at 104 Cornwallis Road, Cornwallis, beside the Hawkesbury River. Because it’s a vigorous grower, it forms a thick, well-knitted mat in the paddock, and we harvest it into rolls only after your order is confirmed. Harvesting only to order means your rolls haven’t been waiting on a pallet before they reach you.
From the farm we supply homes, schools, sporting clubs and councils across Greater Sydney, including the Hills District, Western Sydney, Macarthur and the Northern Beaches, as well as the Blue Mountains, Wollongong and the Central Coast. Delivery runs six days a week, or you can collect from the farm with help loading.

How We Prepare Your Kikuyu Roll Order
Getting Kikuyu rolls to your yard is a quick process once we know your area, preferred format and timing. Here’s what happens after you get in touch with our team at the farm.
1. Measure your area: work out the square metres you need, with a little extra for trimming.
2. Pick your variety: choose from our five turf varieties, or ask us which suits your site.
3. Book your order: call or order online and choose pickup, delivery or installation.
4. Lay it fresh: lay your rolls on the day they arrive and water them in thoroughly.
Sun, Shade and Growth Habits to Plan For
Kikuyu is tough, but knowing its habits helps you get the best from it.
Shaded parts of the yard. Kikuyu loves sun and struggles under dense trees or along the shady side of a house. If part of your yard gets little direct light, consider a soft leaf buffalo such as Sir Walter for that area.
Runners spreading into borders. The same vigour that repairs wear also sends runners into borders. Firm edging and regular trimming keep it where you want it. A clean edge along paths also makes mowing quicker.
Vigorous Kikuyu growth in summer. Kikuyu grows quickly through spring and summer, so plan on regular mowing to keep it tidy and dense. Mowing on a regular schedule also helps the lawn stay thick and crowd out weeds.
Watering through hot spells. Once established, Kikuyu copes well with dry periods, but new rolls need deep watering once or twice a day for the first few weeks. Early morning watering helps the soil hold moisture through the heat of the day.
Frequently Asked Questions About Kikuyu Turf Rolls
Why choose Kikuyu turf rolls for my lawn?
Kikuyu turf rolls give you a lawn that’s hard-wearing, quick to repair itself and budget-friendly. It loves full sun and handles kids, pets and sport well, making it a top choice for large family yards, schools, parks and playing fields where the grass gets plenty of use.
Are Kikuyu rolls available in maxi format?
Maxi rolls can be arranged for large areas such as ovals, parks and big blocks, and fewer joins make for a faster, cleaner finish. Availability in maxi format can vary by season, so let us know your area and timing and we’ll confirm what can be cut.
Does Kikuyu grow in shade?
Kikuyu performs best in full sun and isn’t the best choice for heavily shaded spots. If your yard has a mix of sun and shade, you might use Kikuyu in the open areas and a more shade-tolerant soft leaf buffalo where trees or buildings block the light.
How quickly do Kikuyu turf rolls establish?
Kikuyu roots readily, especially in warm weather. Lay the rolls on the day they arrive, water deeply once or twice daily for around three weeks, and make your first mow after two to three weeks with the mower on a high setting.
How often will I need to mow Kikuyu?
Expect to mow more often in spring and summer, when Kikuyu grows quickly. Regular mowing and edging keep it dense and tidy and stop runners spreading into garden beds. Growth slows in the cooler months, so mowing becomes less frequent.
Is Kikuyu good for dogs?
Kikuyu is a strong option for dog owners because it repairs worn patches quickly through its runners. Areas where dogs run regularly still benefit from rest and watering, but Kikuyu bounces back far better than slower-growing grasses that leave lasting bare tracks.
How many Kikuyu rolls will I need?
Work out the square metres of your lawn by multiplying length by width for each section, then add a little extra for edges and curves. Send us your figures and we’ll double-check them before harvesting so you’re not left short halfway through the job.
Can you deliver or lay my Kikuyu turf rolls?
Yes. Our trucks deliver six days a week and use forklifts to place pallets where you want them, or our experienced crews can remove the old lawn, level, add underlay and lay the Kikuyu for you. Read more about our Kikuyu turf and turf installation in Sydney.
