Sir Walter Soft Leaf Buffalo

Made for Little Feet and Paws

Sir Walter Buffalo Turf for Kids, Pets and Family Fun

A family lawn has to do a lot. It is a playground, a picnic spot, a place for the dog to stretch out and somewhere for the kids to kick a ball after school. Sir Walter Buffalo turf handles that mix well because its broad leaf is gentle on skin and it recovers well from daily wear.

We grow this buffalo ourselves on the Hawkesbury River and harvest it to order, so it reaches your yard fresh. Choose farm pickup, delivery six days a week or installation by our experienced crews, and your family can be enjoying a soft new lawn soon after it is watered in.

In short: Arrow Turf is a family-owned farm that has grown turf at Cornwallis for 45+ years. We supply Sir Walter Buffalo turf cut fresh for family backyards, by pickup, delivery or installation. Cost depends on lawn area, delivery or laying and extras such as underlay, and most orders are ready in a day or two.

Lawns for Growing Families

A Soft, Tough Buffalo Lawn Your Family Will Use

Parents and pet owners often tell us their current lawn is either too prickly to sit on or too fragile to survive the dog. Children are quick to avoid any grass that scratches their legs, and pets wear bare tracks along fences in weaker turf. A good family lawn needs to be soft enough that people want to be on it and tough enough to keep looking good after it has been run, rolled and played on all week.

Sir Walter Buffalo turf ticks both boxes, and we help families get it right from the start. We can advise on how much to order, how to prepare the soil and when to keep kids and pets off while the new roots settle. Our installation crews can take care of old lawn removal, levelling and laying if you would prefer. You can explore the full specifications on our Sir Walter variety page.

Family Lawn Headaches

Scratchy Grass, Worn Tracks and Muddy Paws: Family Lawn Problems

Busy households wear lawns differently from anyone else, and these are the complaints we hear most from parents and pet owners.

Grass that irritates bare skin. Coarse lawns can leave legs itchy after a game or a picnic. Sir Walter’s soft, non-scratchy leaf is comfortable for toddlers crawling, kids rolling around and adults lounging on a rug, so the yard actually gets used and enjoyed.

Worn paths where the dog runs. Dogs tend to patrol the same routes along fences and gates. As a tough buffalo, Sir Walter recovers well from everyday use, helping those well-trodden lines fill back in rather than turning into permanent dirt tracks.

Bare, muddy patches in shady corners. Play equipment, trees and fences shade parts of most family yards. Sir Walter handles part shade better than most turf, keeping more of the yard covered so muddy paws and shoes are less of a daily battle.

Grown by a Family

A Family Farm Growing Lawns for Family Homes

Arrow Turf is family owned and operated, and we have been growing turf at 104 Cornwallis Road, Cornwallis, on the Hawkesbury River for more than 45 years. Our Sir Walter Buffalo is grown in our own paddocks and cared for until the day it is cut for your yard.

We harvest only when an order arrives, so each pallet leaves the farm fresh and is generally ready within a day or two. From here we supply families, schools and builders across the Hawkesbury and Greater Sydney, delivering six days a week or loading your vehicle at the farm with a helping hand.

How We Help Families Get a New Sir Walter Lawn

We know families have plenty on their plates, so we keep ordering as simple as possible. These four steps cover everything from measuring the yard to the first deep watering.

1. Measure your lawn: work out the square metres you need, or send us your measurements to double-check.

2. Choose how you receive it: collect from our farm, book delivery six days a week, or have our crew install it.

3. We cut it fresh: your turf is harvested to order and usually ready within a day or two.

4. Lay and water in: lay it on the day it arrives and water deeply for the first few weeks.

Low Upkeep and Year-Round Colour: What Busy Parents Value in Sir Walter

Comfort and toughness matter most, but busy parents also want a lawn that does not add to the weekly to-do list.

No time for constant mowing. Between sport, school and work, few parents want to mow every few days. Sir Walter grows more steadily than fast-growing grasses, so it needs fewer cuts to stay neat.

A yard that looks tired in winter. Some lawns lose their appeal for part of the year. Sir Walter’s lush, vibrant green leaf stays attractive year-round, giving the family a pleasant outdoor space whatever the season.

Dry spells during school holidays. Holidays away can leave the lawn without much attention. Once established, Sir Walter copes with dry spells and recovers well, so you are not coming home to a ruined yard.

Getting the new lawn established. Keeping kids and pets off brand-new turf is tricky. Laying on arrival and watering deeply once or twice a day for around three weeks helps the roots knit quickly, so playtime can resume sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sir Walter Buffalo Turf

Is Sir Walter Buffalo turf good for kids and dogs?

Yes. Sir Walter Buffalo turf has a soft, non-scratchy leaf that is comfortable for children and pets, and as a tough buffalo it recovers well from everyday use. That combination is why it is such a popular choice for family backyards and homes with pets.

How long should children and pets stay off a new lawn?

Give the turf around two to three weeks to start rooting, keeping traffic light while you water deeply once or twice a day. After the first mow on a high setting, the lawn is generally ready for gradual, normal family use.

Will Sir Walter Buffalo turf grow around play equipment and trees?

Play sets, cubby houses and trees create patches of shade, and Sir Walter handles part shade better than most turf. Areas in near-total shade remain a challenge for any grass, so let us know about those spots when you order.

Does Sir Walter recover if the dog wears a track?

As a tough buffalo, it recovers well from everyday wear. Sir Walter Buffalo turf is far more forgiving than delicate lawns, though very concentrated traffic in one spot can still need a little time and care to fill back in.

Is it hard to maintain a soft buffalo lawn with a busy family?

No. Sir Walter is low maintenance, needing fewer mows than fast-growing grasses. Regular watering in dry periods and an occasional feed keep it healthy, which suits households that would rather spend weekends playing than gardening.

Can your team lay the turf so we don't have to?

Yes. Our experienced crews can remove the old lawn, level the yard, spread underlay, lay the turf and water it in. Learn more about turf installation in Sydney or read our turf care tips for looking after it afterwards.

How is Sir Walter Buffalo turf delivered to a family home?

Our trucks are fitted with forklifts, so pallets can be placed close to where you want to lay them, and we take the pallets away afterwards. Delivery runs six days a week across Greater Sydney and the Hawkesbury.

Which is softer, Sir Walter or Kikuyu?

Sir Walter is a soft leaf buffalo and is generally the gentler choice underfoot. Kikuyu is hard-wearing, fast-repairing and budget-friendly, but it loves full sun and grows quickly, so it suits large, sunny areas better than a shaded family yard.

Trevor was fantastic from the very first time I spoke to him. He informed me on every detail , delivery time, watering/care instructions . He made sure the delivery truck didn’t park on my driveway and also marked out my block perfectly- making sure the turf layers got the job done correctly first time. Thank you so much for a truly great experience. The turf looks beautiful
