Coastal yard or leafy plateau block?
Choosing Turf Supplies Across the Northern Beaches
Lawns on the Northern Beaches vary a lot from one suburb to the next. Beachside homes in Manly, Dee Why and Narrabeen sit on sandy soils with salt-laden wind, while plateau suburbs like Frenchs Forest and the leafy Pittwater peninsula have sandstone ridges, steep blocks and plenty of shade from tall gums and angophoras.
We help Northern Beaches customers choose turf for their particular conditions, from a hard-wearing Kikuyu for a sunny coastal yard to Sir Walter or Matilda for a shaded garden. Every order is cut fresh on our family farm, and we’ll help you work out the right quantity.
In short: Arrow Turf is a family-owned turf farm with over 45 years on the Hawkesbury River, supplying fresh-cut turf to homeowners, landscapers and builders across the Northern Beaches. Price depends on variety, total area, roll size and whether you collect or have it delivered. We harvest to order and most turf is ready within a day or two.

Coastal Lawn Supplies
Trusted Turf Supplies for the Northern Beaches
Life on the Northern Beaches revolves around the outdoors, and a good lawn is part of that. Yet coastal conditions make it tricky. Salt spray and sandy soils near the beaches can scorch and dry out turf, while sandstone ridges and tall eucalypts on the plateau and Pittwater create steep, shaded gardens. Many homes are older cottages or family houses on sloping blocks, so the right grass and careful preparation are key to a lawn that lasts through salty summers and damp, shady winters.
We start by finding out where you are and what your yard is like. Tell us about sun, shade, slope and how the lawn gets used, and we’ll recommend from our five farm-grown varieties. We supply homeowners, landscapers, builders and property managers, cut every order fresh and can help estimate quantities for terraced or irregular gardens. Northern Beaches customers can find more on our turf supply service throughout Sydney.

Beaches Salt and Sand
Salt Spray and Sandy Soils on the Northern Beaches
For homes close to the water, the ocean shapes almost everything about a lawn. Salt, sand and sea breezes are the three biggest challenges for beachside turf on the Northern Beaches, and each needs a slightly different response.
Salt spray burning leaf tips. Onshore winds carry salt that can brown the tips of sensitive grasses. A hardy variety, good soil preparation and consistent watering during establishment help new turf settle in and recover after windy spells.
Beach sand that drains instantly. Coastal sand drains almost instantly, leaving roots thirsty. Laying over an 80/20 turf underlay about 100–150 mm deep holds moisture where it’s needed and gives turf a stronger start.
Sand and salt tracked onto lawns. Beach trips mean sandy feet, wet towels and plenty of traffic. Kikuyu is hard-wearing and repairs quickly, making it a practical pick for busy sunny coastal yards. A quick hose-off of salty sand also helps.

Beaches Suburbs
Supplying Turf From Manly to the Pittwater Peninsula
The Northern Beaches region is managed by Northern Beaches Council. We supply turf to homes near Dee Why Beach and Warringah Mall, around Narrabeen Lakes and along the Mona Vale Road corridor, covering beachside cottages and apartments, plateau family homes and the larger leafy blocks out on the Pittwater peninsula.
Suburbs we regularly supply include Dee Why, Brookvale, Narrabeen, Mona Vale and Avalon Beach. Our farm at 104 Cornwallis Road, Cornwallis is roughly 1 hour 15 minutes away via Windsor Road, the M2 and Mona Vale Road, so we harvest your order to suit your chosen day and send it out fresh.

How We Supply Turf to Northern Beaches Customers
Every Northern Beaches order starts with a chat about your location, sun and slope. Once we’ve settled on the variety and quantity, we cut fresh and arrange pickup or delivery for the day that suits you.
1. Measure your area: work out the square metres you need, or send us your measurements to check.
2. Choose your variety: pick from our five turf varieties, or ask us which suits your site best.
3. Place your order: call or order online and choose pickup, delivery or installation.
4. Receive fresh turf: your turf is cut to order and ready within a day or two, so it arrives fresh.
Shade Under Angophoras and Steep Pittwater Blocks
Away from the sand, many Northern Beaches gardens deal with heavy shade and steep slopes that call for a different approach to choosing and ordering turf.
Gums and angophoras blocking light. Tall native trees block sunlight for much of the day. Sir Walter and Matilda soft leaf buffalo handle reduced light much better than Kikuyu or the couches.
Steep sloping gardens. Sloping blocks lose soil easily and are hard to lay evenly. Lay rolls across the slope, butt joins tightly and water gently during establishment so soil doesn’t wash out from underneath.
Gum leaves piling on new rolls. Gum leaves and bark can pile up on fresh turf and block light. Rake regularly while the lawn establishes so it gets the light it needs to root in and thicken up.
Moving heavy rolls down slopes. Fresh turf weighs roughly 15–20 kg per square metre, so plan where pallets go and how you’ll carry rolls down steps or terraces before delivery day.
Frequently Asked Questions About Turf Supplies on the Northern Beaches
Do you deliver turf supplies to the Northern Beaches?
Yes. We supply fresh turf to homes and businesses across the Northern Beaches, from Manly and Dee Why to Mona Vale and Avalon Beach. Our turf supplies are cut to order and delivered by trucks with forklifts that place pallets where you need them.
What turf suits salty, sandy Northern Beaches yards?
For sunny beachside lawns, Kikuyu is hard-wearing and repairs quickly. Whatever you choose, prepare the sand with an 80/20 underlay and water consistently while the turf establishes. Let us know your exact location and how exposed the yard is, and we’ll recommend the best option.
Which turf grows in shade on the Northern Beaches?
Sir Walter and Matilda soft leaf buffalo are our preferred turf supplies for shaded Northern Beaches gardens under gums and angophoras. They tolerate reduced light better than Kikuyu or couch, which prefer full sun and open ground.
How long does turf take to reach the Northern Beaches?
Our farm is roughly 1 hour 15 minutes from the Northern Beaches via Windsor Road, the M2 and Mona Vale Road. We harvest to order so turf arrives fresh and is typically ready within a day or two.
Can I lay turf on a steep Pittwater block?
Yes. Turf is a great way to stabilise sloping ground. Lay rolls across the slope with tight joins, water gently and keep foot traffic off until roots take hold. Plan in advance how you’ll move rolls to each level, as fresh turf is heavy.
Do landscapers order Northern Beaches turf supplies from you?
Yes. Landscapers, builders and property managers order turf supplies for the Northern Beaches direct from our farm. We can supply larger volumes, schedule harvests to suit your job and deliver to site with pallets placed by forklift.
How do I measure a terraced garden for turf?
Measure each terrace or level separately, multiplying length by width, and add them together. Include a small margin for trimming around steps and garden beds. Send us your measurements and we’ll check the total before we harvest.
Do you offer other turf services on the Northern Beaches?
Yes. You can arrange turf pickup for the Northern Beaches from our farm, book turf delivery on the Northern Beaches with forklift placement, or ask about turf installation on the Northern Beaches, including removal, levelling and laying.
